Artist condemed, but what am I missing?
Artist M.F. Husain has been condemned from his homeland in India, for his painting “Bharatmata” (below), depicting the Hindu goddess in the nude.

His artwork seems highly influenced by Pablo Picasso, if not taken his style. This artist is living outside of his homeland and appears to be continuing his work. While outside of India he may not be able to directly influence it, but he can continue with his radical thinking (according to India) to push his artistic point. Not sure where the beef is. Revolution does not usually happen without the spilling of blood, and his artistic point is not progressing western art. This style has been played with for a number of generations & brings little to the artist community.

art and politics share something similar with religion and politics. Both integrate far too much of “religion” into the political realm. This guy is in exile, he says, in London b/c there are so many complaints against him. It has become “religious.” People are protesting and using “defacement to Mother India, or religion,” as their excuse. They don’t know why they are against his paintings. So, it offends Muslims and many Indians. There is no delineation for those protesting between art and religion and herin lies the “problem.” This is what I think.

It is very Picasso-like. Protruding face, bright colors, uneven body lines. I don’t see an issue with it. If someone painted Jesus in an offensive manor, that would be wrong. But, I wouldn’t demand their life or protest. Each person chooses their own battle and usually, for long-held personal issues they have within themselves instead of really because they are protesting the actual situation.
