I Hate DVDs

dvd logoThe movie industry is super amazingly smart. The MPAA has been purposely staffed with incompetent losers to give the public the impression that the movie industry as a whole is dumb, but it’s just a ruse. The surest proof of their intelligence is manifested in DVDs.

I’m not saying that DVDs are great mind you. Two children in the house under four years of age has proven to me they aren’t. In fact, they’re seemingly defective by design. A fingerprint or a scratch makes certain scenes all but unwatchable. Several of my LoTR disks are now unwatchable and it’s tearing me up inside. A couple of Netflix disks have had problems and a video we got out of a redbox machine last night had an issue. It’s an epidemic.

This flimsy media will actually result in repeat sales of the same disk - I’m sure of it. I’m too stubborn to buy stuff I already own twice, but I don’t doubt that there are many people who do buy the same disks more than once. And that is brilliance on the part of the movie industry.

Ah for the days of VHS tapes. VHS tapes were tough. Not perfectly tough, but tougher. In blessing us with DVDs the movie industry has provided us with a product that will require replacement unless they are stored in locked cabinets when not in use. Lame.

I have a solution.

  1. Just to join the rant: I hate it when people leave CD’s and/or DVD’s lying around and out of their cases. Ahhhhhhhhhrgh!

  2. On a sidenote…Blockbuster is competing with Netflix and offering a fantastic deal. Let’s say you have three movies from Blockbuster via US Post; you can return them at your nearest store, get three new movies and they send you the next three movies from your que, the next day. Bam!!! I love supply & demand!!!
